During yesterday’s Nintendo Direct, fans got excited about the arrival of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection, a long-time favorite series for many. The announcement also revealed that it would be releasing on Switch, PS4, and Steam. And you might notice something is missing.
It was an Xbox, and when IGN asked why, Capcom declined to comment, which is even stranger considering there were two Ace Attorney games on show in the same showcase. teeth It’s coming to Xbox One in addition to other platforms, angering many fighting game fans – every Marvel vs. Capcom game to date has been released on Xbox, so what on earth is going on?
No one seems to know for 100% certain, and this is seen as a bad look for both Capcom and Xbox, as Capcom didn’t want to do any extra work or make another deal to get on Xbox, and Xbox couldn’t convince Capcom. There’s also a possibly solid theory that Capcom’s MT Framework Engine no longer works on Xbox One, which would explain other games that skipped the console, but the point remains that Capcom doesn’t think it’s worth the work to fix Xbox.
It’s estimated that the Xbox One has sold nearly 60 million units since its launch. This generation has retained millions of players from the previous generation, many of whom still play on a daily basis. Many have taken to social media to complain about Marvel vs. Capcom skipping their platform of choice after its long history with Xbox, but again, no one can fully explain why, leaving fans to speculate. It’s not a good look for anyone.
As for the other platforms, all we know at this point is the planned release year (this year) and the seven games that will be included in the collection.
- X-Men: Children of the Atom
- Marvel Superheroes
- X-Men vs. Street Fighter
- Marvel Superheroes vs. Street Fighter
- Marvel vs. Capcom Superhero Clash
- Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes
- Punisher
If you want to play this way, it comes with custom spectating and match features, a museum, a music player, display filters, and one-button specials. It sounds like a great purchase, and it’s a real shame that Xbox players are being locked out. However, this is an issue for Capcom and Microsoft to resolve, and clearly the two companies have not been able to come to an agreement that benefits players.
