Want some drama? Euro 2024 Even the relentless tedium of the English game has England, one of Europe’s great footballing nations, mired in a waking psychodrama of dreaming of having as much fun as Germany.
The hosts are one of two teams already guaranteed to make it into the last 16, along with Spain. England and Switzerland are very likely to join them from the group stage, where only eight of the 24 teams are eliminated. Will big names like Croatia or Belgium find themselves in this small group? The next few days will determine that. All we can confidently predict is that we will see a lot more of the final-minute drama that has come to characterise the earlier matches of the tournament.
