Following last year’s success and the University of Texas Longhorns’ recruiting efforts, expectations continue to grow for the 2024 college football season. On Monday, the University of Texas secured a commitment from five-star quarterback Dia Bell for the 2026 season.
The quarterback factory remains operational after acquiring a commitment from their No. 2 quarterback for the 2026 class. In recent years, the Horns have acquired Quinn Ewers, Arch Manning and now Bell. We’ll have more coverage on the recruiting trail in the coming weeks. For now, our focus returns to the 2024 season.
With Texas preparing for the increased competition the SEC has to offer, the Horns have a chance to return to the top in 2024. Many, including FOX commentator Joel Klatt, are expecting Texas to win.
According to Brad Crawford of 247Sports, Texas expects to finish the 2024 regular season the same way it did in 2023. The Horns were 11-1 last year heading into the 2023 Big 12 Championship Game and could be 11-1 heading into the 2024 SEC Championship Game this year as well.
You may not know it now, but this Texas team could be the shocker of the conference in 2024. The Longhorns are one of the newcomers, but with this lineup, they won’t be hurting in the SEC. They’re too good. And a win against Michigan in Week 2 would send waves of momentum through the locker room, just like their early win against Alabama last year. If Texas beats Michigan, Oklahoma, and Georgia, the schedule will be a little easier before the season finale against Texas A&M. The perfect season would end there, and the Longhorns would already be in the mix a week before SEC Championship Weekend.
It would make sense to look at a team that has already clinched a spot in the SEC title game before the season finale, and there’s no way they wouldn’t try to punch the Aggies in the mouth in the final game.
