Westport Country Playhouse announced new developments for its 2017 season today, including later start and finish times and two of the five plays will be performed in the fall instead of the usual one.

Under the artistic direction of Mark Ramos, 2017 marks the 87th season for Connecticut’s professional theater.
According to the announcement, based on audience feedback, the 2017 season will run from May 30 to November 19. In addition to the five-play season package, a “Pick 4” package will be introduced.
Audience members can choose any four plays throughout the season, a change from the previous four-play season ticket which only allowed them to choose between the first four or last four plays.
The season “Lettice and LovageThe play was written by Peter Shaffer, author of “Amadeus,” which was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play in 1990.
The comedy tells the story of Miss Lettice Duffett, a tour guide at an English mansion who concocts a tale of outrageous exaggeration to make the stuffy estate’s historical past seem more glamorous. It runs from May 30 to June 17 and is directed by Ramos.

When the Lafayette children come together to sort through their recently deceased father’s Arkansas inheritance, they discover a shameful legacy. The play, directed by Playhouse associate artistic director David Kennedy, runs from July 11 to July 29.
The third place is ““Keep your feet on the ground” Winner of the 2016 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Solo Play and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival Fringe First Award, George Brant’s contemporary play tells the story of a fighter ace pilot who is grounded after an unexpected pregnancy and is reassigned as a drone pilot in Las Vegas, where the realities of war collide with suburban comfort. The play, which was shortlisted for the Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award, will run from 15 August to 2 September.
The fourth play is “Sex with a stranger” Written by Laura Eason, this play depicts modern relationships in the digital age. When Ethan, a sex blogger and bestselling author, meets Olivia, a lonely, 30-something novelist, their date takes a dark turn when self-reinvention is just a click away. The play runs from September 26th to October 14th.
The 2017 season will conclude with one of the greatest love stories of all time. “Romeo and Juliet” William Shakespeare’s tale of two teenagers destined to fall in love in a violent world will run from October 31 to November 19, 2017, and will be directed by Ramos, who the New York Post called “one of the world’s greatest Shakespearean directors.”
Performance titles, performers, and dates are subject to change.
Performances are Tuesday at 7pm, Wednesday at 2pm and 8pm, Thursday and Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 3pm and 8pm, and Sunday at 3pm.
