Cedar Point Yacht Club in Westport’s 2017 One-Design Regatta got off to a strong start today with 67 boats competing with over 400 sailors on the first day of the weekend classic. Pictured is a fierce battle between Velocity (skippered by Kevin Marks of Darien) and Wings (skippered by Mike Bruno of Armonk) in the J88 race. Sailors will return for Day 2 on Sunday. John Anthony Creatura of Westport passed away on June 3. He was 84 years old.
He was born in Bridgeport, the son of Grazio and Lena Creatura, and graduated from Fairfield Prep, Yale University and Yale School of Medicine.
He served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969, rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel.
He began his medical career in Bridgeport Radiology and retired as Chief of Nuclear Medicine at Bridgeport Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila Creatura, his children Mark (Susan), Chris (Peter Moulton) and Leah (Michael Drury), and his grandchildren Isabella, Julian and Diana.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Leonard Creatura, and is also survived by his sister-in-law, Kathleen Campion and brother-in-law, Earl LaBarrie (Eleanor), as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors at the home, 8 Onion Hill Road, on Sunday, June 4th from 2:00pm until 6:00pm. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Harding Funeral Home.
Donations in his name can be made to the American Civil Liberties Union or Planned Parenthood.

Martha Stewart returned fondly to her old home on Turkey Hill Road South today for a house tour and garden talk to benefit Positive Directions, a prevention counseling center. The Westport-based nonprofit is a leading provider of alcohol and drug abuse prevention and individual counseling services.
