A burst water pipe has left residents of Warsan Tower without running water, with several residents sitting cross-legged in discomfort for the past 24 hours.
Work continues at the site, with a final notice posted at the Tecom building stating that water supply is expected to be restored by 6pm.
But some residents don’t believe that.
Resident PK told Emirates 24|7: “Our water was cut off yesterday at 10.30am. I asked downstairs and was told a water pipe near the elevator had burst, and that it should be back to normal by 6pm.”
“When it got to 6pm and nothing had happened, I contacted the maintenance team again and they said it was definitely midnight.
“There was no water again this morning. The signs around the building have been changed to 6pm today.”
The situation had become less fun a few hours earlier for PK, who hadn’t showered since yesterday.
Sharma, who is visiting one of the residents at Warsan Tower, admitted that he has not visited the premises in the past 24 hours.
“I stopped drinking water to suppress the cravings,” he said. “In the evening, we drove to the Mall of the Emirates to use the toilets there. We were desperate.
“We have heard that several others went there to use the facilities at the Media Rotana Hotel next door.”
When we went to question the workers, we were officially informed that while the initial problem had been resolved with a new pipe, “the workers told us that there had been a second incident, and that the replaced pipe also burst. As a result, we are now considering a third, more permanent solution.”
Dirty dishes piled up in some homes, while other residents were forced to line up with buckets in front of a water truck stationed near their lobbies.
“It feels like I’ve been transported back to a village in India,” said Akanksha, another resident of the building. “I would never have imagined myself in a building in Dubai, carrying a bucket and trying to fetch water from a communal tap.”
Emirates 24|7 made several calls to Al Sharq Facilities Management for an update but no one picked up the phone.
The updated signs state that water service will be restored by 6 p.m.
