The 124th U.S. Open is currently underway at Pinehurst No. 2 in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
Right from the get-go, the field will be chasing world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who is playing better than Tiger Woods did in his prime. Scheffler will tee off in the afternoon round (1:24 p.m. ET to be exact) along with Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele, and by that time they’ll know just how difficult the course is.
And it is expected to be a tough fight.

It’s still early though…
Of the 41 players on the course, eight were under par (including Tiger Woods, who parred his second shot), 16 were even par, and 18 were over par (including Phil Mickelson, who bogeyed his first shot).

Tiger Birdie
The biggest challenges players will have to manage this week are staying on the fairway (and staying out of the sand “rough”) and managing the tricky greens. Tiger Woods sliced his second shot into the “rough” on the par-5 10th hole after a beautiful drive, his first test coming early but he recovered brilliantly.
He made a 12-foot birdie to go at 1 under. A strong start for the Big Cat.

Isn’t that ironic?
Two players are under par… both amateurs. Strange, right?
Tiger Woods is coming…

And off they went…
The 124th U.S. Open has officially begun, and already Pinehurst’s No. 2 hole and its turtleback green have become a test of sorts: a bogey and a double bogey on the opening hole of the opening trio, so fasten your seatbelts.
