The UAE administered 40,434 doses of coronavirus vaccines in the past 24 hours.
The country’s Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) announced that a total of 15.5 million doses have been administered so far.
This brings the dose rate to 157.4 per 100 people.
A study published in the journal Nature suggests that most people vaccinated with messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines may not need a booster unless the virus and its variants mutate beyond the current type. He said there is growing evidence that this is the case.
The study also said people who recovered from COVID-19 before vaccination may not need a booster shot, even if the virus has changed significantly. However, it remains unclear whether vaccination alone will have a long-term effect against the COVID-19 pandemic.
UAE doctors said the results were promising, but more research was needed before it could be determined that mRNA vaccines were a long-term solution to the coronavirus.
As of July 4, the country had administered more than 15.53 million vaccine doses. According to data released by the National Emergency and Disaster Management Agency (NCEMA), 64% of residents are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and 74% have received at least one dose.
The UAE has overtaken Seychelles as the country that has administered the most vaccinations, according to Bloomberg vaccine tracking data. Seychelles has administered enough doses to cover 71.7 per cent of its population.
On May 23 this year, the UAE overtook Israel in terms of vaccination rates.
