At the “Eras Tour” concerts, there is always a moment the audience is waiting for: a surprise song.
this is Taylor Swift Armed with just her guitar and piano, she performs acoustic versions of two songs that change with each show — sometimes a mashup, sometimes not — and fans won’t know what she’s chosen that night until the surprise song set begins.
For the first surprise song of the night, Swift performed a mashup of Rihanna’s “This Is What You Came For” and her own 2020 song, “Gold Rush.”
Swift has been known to sing covers on previous tours, but this one was written with then-boyfriend DJ Calvin Harris and was released in 2016 and performed by Harris and Rihanna.
In a 2020 conversation published in Rolling Stone, Swift acknowledged her pen name in conversation with Bernard Webb and Paul McCartney, who has previously written songs under the names Fireman.
“I wrote a song under the name Nils Sjoberg because those are the two most popular names among Swedish men,” Swift said. “I wrote a song called ‘This Is What You Came For,’ and Rihanna ended up singing it, but nobody knew about it for a while.”
Swift just released her 11th album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” on April 29, and kicked off the European leg of her “Eras Tour” in Paris on May 9. There were some major changes to the setlist, including the addition of new era songs, but Swift kept up her tradition of performing surprise songs.
Last year, Swift said she aimed to avoid repeating surprise songs during her “Eraser Tour,” leaving fans to play detective and follow each night’s performance to see which favorites were chosen leading up to their own concert dates.
But after Swift announced that she’ll be “resetting” all her song eligibility for 2024 and giving it a twist, it’s impossible to predict what she’ll do next.
Intrepid Swifties who have been keeping track of every song Swift has performed have noticed that while there are some songs she’s played countless times, there are also a few that have never been performed. Here are the songs:
