The county shelter is waiving adoption and microchip fees through July 7 to give these lucky pets new freedom and the ability to pursue happiness.
Animal Services’ “Snuggles with Stars and Stripes” promotion began on June 16 ahead of the Fourth of July, a holiday when shelters often see an influx of animals because fireworks scare pets away.
Shelters in the county and across the U.S. continue to be overcrowded, and community support is urgently needed to save the lives of homeless pets.
If you live in a county service area, microchipping can also help reunite lost pets. Families shouldn’t be torn apart, even temporarily, by a startling sound.
If your pet panics, it may run and be at risk of getting caught in traffic, getting lost, or being attacked by other animals.
Make sure your pet has an identifying collar in case they run away, and if they are microchipped, you can have the microchip scanned to reunite them more quickly.
Keep your pet indoors in a quiet, safe place, and avoid the possibility of them staying in the yard, even if they have never escaped before. White noise or sleep machines, TVs and radios can also help to drown out outside noises.
If your pet is especially anxious about loud noises, try staying home with them or with a pet-loving person to help them feel safe. Your vet may also recommend anxiety-relieving medication for particularly frightened pets.
Find your new best friend by browsing the county shelter’s online animal listings. You’ll find adorable cats, dogs, rabbits, turtles, guinea pigs, chickens, pigs and more. Adoption Please see the page: Due to the popularity of this adoption special, Animal Services staff encourages you to also choose a second and third choice dog in case your first choice has already been adopted.
Adoption fees are always waived for senior adopters, senior pets, and pets who have been waiting more than 30 days to find their forever home.
Walk-in hours are Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at both the South Shelter, located at 5821 Sweetwater Road in Bonita, and the North Shelter, located at 2481 Palomar Airport Road in Carlsbad. Please note that the shelters will be closed June 19th in observance of Juneteenth.
