Police seized suspected cannabis plants worth approximately €180,000 during a search operation in Fairymount, Co Roscommon yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon.
The raids were carried out as part of Operation Tara by Mayo, Roscommon and Longford District Drug Enforcement Unit, which targeted suspected cannabis cultivation facilities.
Just after 5pm, police from the Mayo Roscommon Longford District Drugs Unit searched a property in Fairymount. During the search a large cultivation facility was found with cannabis plants in different stages of growth. During the investigation police seized cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €180,000. The drugs are currently being analysed by the Forensic Science Institute Ireland (FSI).
The Garda investigation comes just 24 hours after officers seized suspected cannabis plants and cannabis herbs worth around €700,000 during a search operation in Laughlin, Co Roscommon.
At approximately 3.30pm on Tuesday afternoon, officers from the Mayo, Roscommon and Longford District Drugs Unit carried out a search operation at a property in Loughglynn. The search was carried out as part of an ongoing Operation Tara investigation targeting suspected cannabis cultivation establishments.
During the course of the searches, a large-scale cannabis cultivation was discovered. Cannabis plants and cannabis herbs, with an estimated street value of €700,000, were seized by investigating police. All drugs are now subject to analysis by Forensic Science Ireland (FSI).
Three men in their 30s were arrested at the scene and detained at Roscommon County Police Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.
