Ras Al Khaimah police arrested three Asian robbers within 24 hours who robbed a company representative in Al Qalm area of Dh287,000.
Brigadier General Abdullah Ali Menakas, head of the RAK Police Criminal Investigation Department, said on Saturday that he received a report that unidentified robbers attacked a representative of a company here and took 278,400 dirhams.
“The victim resisted his assailants and chased the robber in an attempt to recover the money, but to no avail, the robber allegedly fled to Al Qalm district in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.”
He added that CID officers rushed to the scene and carefully listened to the victim and extracted all necessary details. “He said he had 287,400 dirhams that he collected from selling his company’s products.”
He was heading to a local bank in a shopping center here to deposit money into his company account. Menakas explained. “When I got out of the car and was heading toward a shopping center, someone suddenly attacked me from behind and snatched my plastic bag containing money.”
He elaborated that at that time, another colleague arrived at the scene, but was delayed as he was scheduled to be present during the deposit. “The two representatives tried to catch the robber, but he disappeared into the trees in the Al Qalm area.”
RAK police, in cooperation with Special Forces, Air Wing and Coast Guard Squad 2, searched the area but were unable to locate the robbers.
“Competent police officers, based on their years of experience, suspected that the two representatives were involved in the robbery due to loopholes in their explanations.”
“So many mall visitors were scanned that CID officials suspected a foreigner staying in Dubai. Their hideout was raided and they were arrested.
The suspect admitted he had a visitor visa and was looking for work.
“Someone promised to help him get a good job on the condition that he rob others, and later gave him all the details of the money he had stolen and stashed in Al Qalm district.”
RAK Police recovered the entire amount, Brigadier Menakas said. “The investigation revealed that the second representative, who was not present during the robbery, was the one who had promised the job, but it was later discovered that the first representative was also involved in the robbery. ”
