Ras Al Khaimah Police arrested three Asian robbers within 24 hours after they robbed a company representative in Al Karm area of 287,000 dirhams.
Brigadier General Abdullah Ali Menakas, head of the Russian Federal Police’s Criminal Investigation Department, said on Saturday they received a report that unidentified robbers had attacked a company representative here and taken 278,400 dirhams.
“The victim resisted his attackers and allegedly chased the robbers to recover his money but was unable to do so, after which the robbers fled to the Al Karm area of the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.”
CID personnel rushed to the scene and carefully listened to the victim and obtained all the necessary details, he added. “The victim said he had Dh287,400 which he had earned by selling some of his products.”
Brigadier General Menakas explained that he was on his way to a local bank in a shopping centre to deposit money into his company’s account: “As he got out of his car and was heading towards the shopping centre, unknown individuals suddenly attacked him from behind and snatched the plastic bag containing the money.”
At that time, another colleague arrived at the scene but was delayed as he was supposed to be with them when depositing the money, he recounted. “The two officers tried to catch the robber but he disappeared into the trees in Al Karm area.”
RAK Police, along with Special Forces, the Aviation Wing and the Coast Guard’s Second Platoon, searched the area but were unable to locate the robbers.
“With years of experience, competent police officers suspected the two representatives of involvement in the robbery as there were loopholes in the explanation.”
“Despite the high number of visitors at the mall, CID personnel suspected a foreigner staying in Dubai. With permission from the public prosecutor and with the help of Dubai Police, we raided the hideout of the suspects and detained them.”
The suspect admitted to entering the country on a tourist visa and was looking for work.
“One person promised to help him get a good job if he robbed another person and later gave him all the details of the money he had robbed and hidden in Al Karm area.”
RAK police recovered the full amount, Brigadier Menakas said. “Investigations revealed that a second representative, who was not at the robbery scene, was the one who promised him the job, but it was later discovered that the first representative was also involved in the robbery.”
