Reports of Lawrence’s $275 million contract with the Jaguars set the stage for Purdy. This was first reported by NBC Sports Bay Area.
Jacksonville has locked down its franchise quarterback, which is likely good news for 49ers point guard Brock Purdy.
The Jaguars and Trevor Lawrence have agreed to a five-year, $275 million contract extension, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport was the first to report on Thursday, citing sources.

of #Jaguar The team has signed star quarterback Trevor Lawrence to a contract that, according to sources, is set to give the former first-round draft pick a five-year extension worth $275 million total ($55 million per year), with $200 million guaranteed and $142 million in full.

Lawrence is reportedly set to receive $200 million in guaranteed money, with $142 million of that due upon the signing of the contract.
The extension will bring in an average annual salary of $55 million, making Lawrence tied with Cincinnati Bengals star Joe Burrow as the NFL’s highest-paid players.
Purdy will be eligible to sign a new contract after the 2024 NFL season after leading the 49ers to Super Bowl 55 last year, and if he repeats his MVP-caliber performance, he is expected to benefit from being the final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Also, the contracts recently awarded to Lawrence and Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff could set the bar for a contract extension for Purdy.
Lawrence, the No. 1 overall pick in 2021, had a decent 2023 season despite some numbers dropping off after a breakout sophomore season.
Lawrence threw for 4,016 yards and completed 65.6% of his passes with 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 16 games.
The Jaguars finished the season with a 9-8 record for the second straight season but missed out on a playoff berth amid an increasingly competitive AFC South division.
Lawrence led the Jaguars to the playoffs in 2022, completing an improbable upset over the Los Angeles Chargers in the wild-card round, before losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round.
In addition to Christian Kirk, the Jaguars acquired Gabe Davis from the Buffalo Bills in free agency during the offseason and then drafted Brian Thomas Jr. out of LSU with the 23rd overall pick to provide Lawrence with additional weapons.
Mac Jones will be acquired from the New England Patriots and will be the QB2 behind Lawrence.
