I probably should have covered this yesterday, but I’ve noticed a lot of fluctuation in the rankings from late Monday, July 22nd, through yesterday, July 23rd, and today, July 24th. This could be a continuation of what we saw last week, or it could be something new. I can’t say for sure.
The last Google search rankings update we covered was on July 18th, the previous one was on July 9th, and since then Google rankings have been unstable every weekend.
We’ve seen a surge in conversations within the SEO community, and we’re seeing a surge in volatility with many tools as well.
I feel like Google is testing something…
We know the next core update is scheduled for within the next few weeks…

Traffic spiked all day Sunday, searches were up 27% today… and in the US yesterday ended up up 16%. No serious sales inquiries though. Interesting…
Something is wrong. My website traffic has increased significantly since Saturday. I am getting more visitors from Google and my search console looks better.
The same thing is happening to me, but I can see that my rankings keep dropping on Semrush, but on Hrefs I see an upward trend, and on Google I see a slight increase through GA.
During this update, we have observed a curious increase in traffic on sites affected by HCU (+150% daily in SEMR tracking and GA).
– The pages that are becoming more popular are all old and now 301 redirected URLs.
We completely changed our site structure 3-4 months ago and completely removed the old URL structure – everything is 301 redirecting to the new pages – and 100% of the increase in traffic we’re seeing now is due to page rankings on the old URLs.
At this point I don’t know what to do.
Yesterday’s temporary gains seem to have vanished. As expected.
The constant shuffling seems to be the norm now and it really breaks my heart. The quality has gotten worse. The shuffling used to happen on Thursdays and Fridays and on weekends. Now it’s about 8 days of constant shuffling. Every day.
There are definitely updates on the way. One of my competitors has completely disappeared.
It has seen an impressive 20% increase in the last few hours.
Let’s see if it works, I doubt it will, but I’m prepared to be pleasantly surprised once.
