The Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP) under the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported five deaths due to the novel coronavirus in India in the past 24 hours. As of January 2, 2024, a total of 511 cases of JN.1 series variants have been reported from 11 states.
According to India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, more than 600 new cases were registered in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of infections to 45,015,136.
The number of active cases is 4,440, down 125 from Tuesday. Approximately 722 people have recovered in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 44,477,272. State-wise distribution showed that there were 2 deaths in Kerala in the last 24 hours. The deceased was identified as a 66-year-old man who had chronic liver disease, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), and sepsis. A 79-year-old woman with coronary artery disease (CAD), T2DM, and sepsis.
Karnataka reported one coronavirus death in the past 24 hours. A 45-year-old man with hypertension (HTN) from Vijayanagar lost his life due to coronavirus.
Punjab has reported one death due to coronavirus. The deceased was identified as a 62-year-old man who had pulmonary Koch, lung injury, and MODS.
One death due to coronavirus was reported in the last 24 hours in Tamil Nadu. A 74-year-old man with interstitial lung disease, CAD, DM, and hypertension lost his life.
Odisha reported 27 new cases on Tuesday.
According to an ICMR report, around 32,946 tests were conducted in the country on January 2.
“Till January 2, 2024, a total of 511 cases of the JN.1 series variant have been reported from 11 states. Karnataka has reported 199 cases of the subvariant; Kerala has 148 cases; “47 cases have been reported in Goa, 36 from Gujarat and 32 from Maharashtra,” the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said. 26 cases of JN.1 subvariant have been reported in Tamil Nadu. Delhi has reported 15 cases and Rajasthan has four cases. Telangana state reported two cases. Odisha and Haryana reported one case each.
