The Humane Society of Fairfax County (HSFC) is located on Chain Bridge Road in Fairfax and finds forever homes for homeless cats, dogs and small mammals. Cats are housed at the City of Fairfax facility. This summer, HSFC will be featuring a “shy” cat.
What is a “shy cat”? Shy cats are not aggressive. They are timid, cautious and reserved. They do not seek attention or intimacy, but they do show affection in less communicative ways. These special cats bond with their feeders and frequent visitors, but have a hard time opening up to strangers. Because their personalities are the result of little human interaction in their early years, it takes time for them to build the trust that more sociable cats have in humans. Most are survivors who were rescued after battling a tough life on the streets at a young age, or who received little or no care in their first home. These kitties are perfect house cats, as they require little in-person interaction, but when they are adopted by a loving family, they show their gratitude in their own way. Watching birds and other activity from a window, snuggling with their bonded companion, and lounging in the sun during quiet moments are all they need. Usually, one cat in a friendly pair is more active and used to being stroked and brushed, while the other just watches. It can take a while for a reserved cat to finally come out of their shell. These cats can make perfect companions to a family that understands and cherishes their unique personalities.
Rose and Daisy (2.5 years old) They will be starting their second year at HSFC at the end of the summer. Rose and Daisy did very well in their foster home over the Christmas holidays a year ago, but since returning to the facility, there has been a shortage of younger, more outgoing cats to adopt. However, time and stability in their environment has helped them. Rose enjoys daily affection from the caregivers and visiting volunteers, and Daisy observes and sometimes joins in. We believe that being adopted into a quiet home environment will give the cats more space to move around as well as enjoy daily interaction with their families.
Amber (8 years old). Amber is initially shy around most people, but loves attention and head scratches. She will become a real sweetheart if given lots of tender loving care. Amber has beautiful soft grey and white fur. She is a flower waiting to blossom in a loving home. Consider adopting Amber as your only best friend cat.
Muffy (18 years old). Muffy is a little senior dog who loves to have her chin scratched. If you’re looking for a couch companion then look no further. Muffy is looking for a quiet home where she can nap all day. She is nearly deaf but loves loving petting and tender attention. We are looking for a quiet and peaceful home for her. This stunning calico beauty deserves a family of her own in this special chapter of her life.
Jeni and Beni (2.5 years old)). Beni and his best friend and twin sister Jeni just arrived at HSFC this summer.
Jeni is adorable and has a cute pink nose. She and her brother Beni get along well and should be adopted together. She is a brown and white tabby cat. She loves being with her owners and hopes they like playing games. She loves her wand toys and is very smart. She has a very gentle meow and will visit strangers a few times before she gets used to them.
Beni has a big personality and has a very handsome brown and white tabby fur. He is very friendly and loves attention. Beni loves to chat and he also loves treats. He has soft paws and loves to be stroked. He will shake his paws, sit, stand, lie down and come when called. Beni and Jeni both like older children, adults and those who like to sleep with cats. Come meet the famous twins and prepare to fall in love. Jeni and her brother Beni make great pets and will give lots of love to everyone.
Harvey and Henry (age 7)Harvey is a gorgeous long-haired grey cat who shares a room with his best friend Henry at HSFC. Harvey is the front door greeter and loves meeting all the volunteers and visitors. He’s not exactly a shy cat due to his outgoing nature. Harvey is basically the front man while Henry keeps his cool, burrowing under the blankets and waiting until he’s comfortable going out to get some petting and attention from volunteers and visitors. Henry has bright orange and white fur and beautiful eyes to match. They are a special bonded pair of gentlemen who are excited to share their lives with you. They will put a smile on your face when you meet them.
