BEIJING (ANTARA/PRNewswire) — The 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) unanimously adopted a resolution to establish the “International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations”, proposed by China. According to the resolution, June 10 has been designated as the “International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations”.
The resolution respects the diversity of civilizations and calls for equal dialogue and mutual respect among different civilizations, fully reflecting the core of the Global Civilizations Initiative (GCI) proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The international community’s unanimous support for the establishment of the International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations demonstrates that the GCI is in line with the trends and responds to the demands of the times.
President Xi Jinping proposed the GCI in March 2023, emphasizing the importance of respecting the diversity of civilizations, sharing common values among mankind, inheriting and innovating civilizations, and advocating robust international people-to-people exchanges and cooperation.
In today’s world where the future of each country is closely linked, GCI provides answers to important questions such as how different civilizations should coexist and where human civilization is headed, promoting mutual learning among civilizations and providing Chinese wisdom and solutions to promote the progress of human civilization.
China’s proposal to establish the International Day of Dialogue of Civilizations in the UN General Assembly has helped implement the GCI and injected positive energy into tackling the common challenges facing mankind.
China is committed to promoting mutual understanding, respect and trust among nations, and seeks to forge consensus on peaceful development through cultural exchanges and mutual learning.
This year alone, the GCI has been incorporated into bilateral documents between China and more than a dozen countries, including Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Tunisia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Serbia and Hungary, enjoying increasingly wider recognition and support.
As the world enters a new era of upheaval and challenges, the international community increasingly recognizes that exchanges and mutual learning among different civilizations can strengthen understanding, trust and cooperation, and provide an important impetus for the development and progress of humankind.
The UN General Assembly resolution states that the achievements of all civilizations are the “common heritage of mankind.” It also emphasizes the “essential role of dialogue” among civilizations in maintaining world peace, promoting common development, enhancing human well-being, and achieving collective progress. The resolution reflects the universal aspiration of countries around the world to uphold equality and inclusiveness, and to preserve the diversity of world civilizations.
The resolution calls on all Member States and UN agencies to commemorate the International Day.
China will work closely with all parties to organize diverse and lively inter-civilization dialogue activities, advocate respect for the diversity of civilizations, promote common values for mankind, attach great importance to the inheritance and innovation of civilizations, and actively promote people-to-people exchanges and cooperation, so as to achieve common prosperity and progress of human civilization.
The international community’s unanimous support for the establishment of the “International Civilizations Dialogue Day” demonstrates that China’s ideas and solutions are increasingly gaining international consensus.
No matter how the international situation changes, China will firmly stand on the right side of history and on the side of human progress, strongly advocate peace, development, cooperation and mutual benefit, safeguard the common values of mankind, and promote the realization of the Global Development Initiative (GDI), Global Security Initiative (GSI) and Global Security Initiative (GCI), and build an open, inclusive, clean and beautiful world with lasting peace, universal security and common prosperity.
The public goods provided by China to the international community mobilize the broadest consensus among mankind about building a beautiful world, bringing prosperity and stability to the world, and bringing real benefits to the people.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres highly appreciated the UN’s firm commitment to multilateralism and support for President Xi’s proposal for the GDI, GSI and GCI, and reiterated the UN’s strong determination to deepen cooperation with China.
Today, the world is facing rapid changes not seen in a century, with frequent regional conflicts and turmoil. Global problems are becoming more serious. All countries need to strengthen dialogue and cooperation, and jointly inject stability and positive energy into the turbulent international situation.
China will take a stand of justice and walk the high path, continue to cooperate with all parties involved, implement the GDI, GSI and GCI, and resolutely build a community with a shared future for mankind.
