Fifth-grader Sarah Mosley led the charge against Dartmouth this Sunday, leading the Georgia State softball team to a decisive 8-1 victory. With this win, the Georgia Classic ended and the Bulldogs’ record improved to 12 wins and 1 loss.
Mosley got Georgia going early, hitting easy shots over the fence and quickly taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Mosley has been a consistent offensive leader for Georgia, hitting 17 home runs last season and earning a spot on the preseason All-SEC team.
“It’s a great feeling to know that you’ve achieved something and you’re doing it for the team. That doesn’t change. That feeling is just good. And feeling good about yourself and just watching. It just makes me feel better,” Mosley said. Ball over never gets old. ”
The next inning, Mosley found another chance and carried himself and Sidney Kuma around the bases, extending the lead to six runs. Dartmouth was able to get one run back in the fourth inning, but two RBIs by Jaydin Goodwin and Jaden Fields ensured the victory for the Bulldogs.
Mosley supported his offensive performance with perfect defense, and in the third inning, he hit a diving line drive that left pitcher Madison Karpix with no bases on base. Mosley is ranked No. 3 nationally at the third base position by D1Softball.
Georgia State lost its first game of the season on Friday as No. 21 Virginia Tech pulled off a 5-4 upset over the Bulldogs. Although Georgia’s undefeated season ended with a 7-5 victory the next day.
However, even after losing once, the fans did not falter. There were 728 fans in attendance Sunday, and head coach Tony Baldwin acknowledged the home-field advantage the crowd provided.
“The atmosphere is unbelievable this weekend,” Baldwin said. “Even the head coach at Virginia Tech said it felt like a College World Series, super regional environment. I can’t thank the fans enough for coming out, but this weekend It made a difference.”
The Bulldogs had a top-10 showdown with No. 9 Clemson the following Wednesday at Jack Turner Stadium.
