The Florida State Seminoles baseball team added a team-high 26 wins following Tuesday’s win over the North Carolina Tar Heels, and now has 49 wins, their most since finishing the season with a 50-17 record in 2012.
In a win-or-lose game, the Seminoles jumped out to an early lead and ultimately won against the defending ACC regular season champions and one of the best teams in the country. Pitchers Andrew Armstrong and Connor Hults were outstanding on the mound, and the offense led FSU to the next stage of the College World Series.
The Seminoles will next face off against the Tennessee Volunteers.
These two powerhouses met in the season opener with Florida State leading for much of the game. A late collapse, coupled with a questionable umpire check swing call, resulted in a walk-off win for the Volunteers. The loss could have sunk the Seminoles, but the team has continued to show resilience.
The Volunteers came into the matchup undefeated in the College World Series, having sent the Tar Heels to the losers’ bracket with a win over North Carolina. The Seminoles would need to beat the Volunteers twice to reach the championship series.
FSU will be right back on the field after yesterday’s win, but Tennessee will be coming into Wednesday’s game with a fresh pitching staff. As the only non-SEC team remaining in Omaha, the Seminoles will need a major bolster in their pitching staff to take on one of the best offensive teams in the country.
