South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley demanded an apology from senior center Camila Cardoso on social media after an ad aired on CBS Radio Wednesday morning.
The CBS Sports Minute, read by JR Jackson, known as the JR Sports Brief, covered March Madness and named the players who made the Women’s NCAA Tournament a hit.
“I’m more excited about the women’s tournament,” he said in the ad. “We’re ready for Angel Reese, Caitlin Clark, and a huge Brazilian woman who’s going to turn people upside down.”
Staley called for an apology on X, formerly known as Twitter, by tagging CBS affiliate 107.5 The Game, which aired the ad on CBS Sports and Columbia.
“I never expected one of my players to be referred to in such an offensive manner,” Staley posted. “I will not stand by on this issue. Camilla deserves an apology.”

107.5 The Game apologized to Staley following the social media post, reminding them that while they cannot control what is broadcast during sports game time, they are responsible for what is played on the station. Admitted. The station also apologized on air.
Jackson took responsibility for his comments and apologized to Cardoso and the state of South Carolina on social media.
Staley said CBS Sports executives contacted her directly to apologize.
