TORONTO, June 12, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) —
Cuteness season is in full swing on Parliament Hill, and the Canadian Animal Health Institute is pleased to announce the winners of two awards.and The annual “Cutest Pet in Parliament” Contest.
Parliamentarians, staff and members of Parliament House’s press gallery submitted more than 105 entries for this year’s competition, complete with photos and incredible stories of their beloved pets. A panel of distinguished judges then narrowed it down to the top 10 pets in each category, at which point the public voted. Finalists left no stone unturned, launching their own ‘call to vote’ campaigns, resulting in a total of more than 8,800 votes being cast for the 30 Parliamentary Pet Finalists across the three highly contested categories.
“CAHI is so grateful to everyone who contributed to the huge success of this year’s competition, from the judges to the participants, voters, and supporters who helped spread the word! We’re excited to host the competition in 2025 and beyond, and we’re sure the competition will only get fiercer (and cuter)!” said Dr. Katherine Fileski, President and CEO of CAHI.
Yesterday evening, Vice-Speaker and Chair of the Plenary Assembly, Chris d’Entremont, joined CAHI at the pet-friendly Metropolitan Brasserie in downtown Ottawa to announce the cutest pets in Parliament Hill for 2024.
Cutest dog: Walnut
Walnut is a great advocate for democracy, an experienced canvasser, and a celebrity in the community thanks to his kindness, generosity, and love for all he meets. He is a passionate supporter of equal rights for quadrupeds. Additionally, he enjoys a variety of cuisines and afternoon naps.
Cutest Cat: Tabasco
Tabasco is a homage to the ubiquitous red sauce and reflects the passionate spirit that lies beneath its gentle exterior. Named by a girlfriend who saw fit to put the piquant condiment on everything from eggs to macaroni, Tabasco embodies a warmth and kindness that endears her to all who meet her. Tabasco’s love knows no bounds and her presence is a constant source of comfort.
It would be rude not to point out the mischievous eyes that follow her around the room, and the rumbling noise she makes like a motorboat, yet 14 years later she’s as healthy as ever.
Cutest other pet: Bernard
My name is Bernard, my pronouns are They/Them, I’m just a party animal looking for free drinks and canapes at the Met, find me on the patio.
CAHI’s “Cutest Pet on Capitol Hill” contest is expected to return in 2025, and is expected to be even bigger and better. Some Capitol Hill pets have reportedly already assembled teams of strategists and campaign managers and developed strong campaign platforms to ensure their success in next year’s competition.
