In the past 24 hours, news of the death of Whitney Adeniran, a 12-year-old student of Chrisland International High School, Opebi, Lagos, has rocked social media platforms.
On Saturday, the father of the deceased, Mr. Michael Adeniran, announced that his daughter died at Agege Stadium, which was used by the school for intramural sports activities on the same day.
He said Whitney left the house in good spirits when the school bus driver came to pick her up, but the next time he saw her, she was dead.
“The biggest shock of my life was when my wife called me by 1pm on Thursday to tell me that my daughter had collapsed at an interscholastic competition and was rushed to the clinic,” Adeniran said. Ta.

“I left my office and went to where my 12-year-old daughter was lying dead on the ground. I asked her what happened, but the school authorities said she was in custody. We couldn’t get any information about what happened to the child.”
Whitney’s death shocked many Nigerians, but it’s not the first time Chrisland has been in the news for the wrong reasons.

In October 2019, Adegboyega Adenekan, the superintendent of Chrisland School in Lekki, Lagos State, was sentenced to 60 years in prison for defiling a two-year-old child at the school.

In 2016, the mother of the defiled student raised the alarm that Adenekan had raped her child. Although the school denied the allegations and sided with the teacher and maintained his innocence, the Lagos State government took over the case.
On October 24, 2019, the Ikeja Sexual Offenses and Domestic Violence Court found the teacher guilty of one count of rape of a minor.
Judge Sybil Nwaka of the Ikeja Sexual Offenses and Domestic Violence Court sentenced Adenekan, then 47, to prison and found him guilty.
In handing down his sentence, Mr Nwaka argued that the evidence in court showed the supervisor was guilty as charged.

“This defendant has no conscience, is evil, has an animal-like personality, and is not fit to walk the streets. I hereby sentence Adegboyega Adenekan to 60 years in prison. This is the verdict of the court. ,” Nwaka said.

In a video that went viral, the minor’s mother claimed that the school claimed her daughter was raped and threatened to kill her if she spoke out.
The news caused a stir in public opinion and the Lagos State Government, in a statement on April 18, 2022, ordered the immediate closure of the school along with all other attached institutions in the state. He also promised to investigate and prosecute.
