In Part 1, we learned about the experience of working with Chris Long and Bill Slawski. Next, in Part 2, we talked about his SEO help with LinkedIn and how he used Facebook to change jobs. Then in part 3, we talked about SEO strategies and his SEO tests. In Part 4, we talked about his SEO for e-commerce sites. Finally, Part 5 is about improving your SEO technical skills and doing aggressive SEO.
Chris started out more focused on content SEO and wasn’t very good at technical SEO in the early days, but over the years he has learned and become a true pro at technical SEO. At Go Fish Digital, he needed to perform some of his more technical SEO tasks and needed to tackle them quickly.
Chris said he needed to put himself through that experience by first running Screaming Frog crawls on large sites and analyzing e-commerce sites. Even if you don’t understand everything, just start. He read a lot about technical SEO and studied the same information over and over again until he completely understood it. Never stop reading and learning. Don’t be afraid of what you don’t know today. Force yourself to be uncomfortable.
We talked briefly about how Google started looking at rendered HTML pages rather than pure HTML 10 years ago.
Next, Chris talked about offensive and defensive SEO. He said many SEOs are acting defensively rather than offensively. Instead of reacting to SEO issues, be proactive about your SEO. Chris showed off tons of examples on how to be aggressive with SEO.
