Aleyda Solis posted the results of a poll she conducted, which found that 54% of respondents said that Google updates over the past two years have had a mostly positive impact on their sites, with Google’s John Mueller responding to the poll by saying, “With exceptions, this is not a doom and gloom situation for SEOs or working on the web.”
Well, if you look at many of the comments on this site and on X, most are pessimistic.
There were only 109 responses to the survey, so keep that in mind.
The survey results were published on LinkedIn and asked the question, “Have the websites you have consulted for in the past few years been positively or negatively affected by Google updates?”
- 54% responded that the effects were “generally positive”
- 25% said they were not affected
- 18% responded that the impact was “mostly negative”
- The remaining 3% didn’t know why…
Google’s John Mueller responded to the thread:
Social media is often a magnet for disgruntled people. There are many people working hard to build great websites. We wish we could celebrate our successes more! While there are exceptions, SEO and working on the web is not a cause for doom and gloom. Thank you for creating and helping to create a great site!
I know many of you would disagree with this, and certainly the responses to this survey are very low, but I agree that the majority of people who speak out about Google updates do so only to complain and share their negative results. Many successful people would be wise to stay silent, at least not share their tangible successes.
Forum discussion on LinkedIn.
Update: Below is the same question/answer poll I posted on X.
Have any websites you’ve consulted for in the last few years been positively or negatively affected by Google updates? Aleda
