Several residents of Warsan Tower have been sitting cross-legged in discomfort for the past 24 hours after a burst water pipe left residents without running water.
Work continues at the site, and a final notice has been posted at the Tecom building stating water will be restored by 6 p.m.
But some residents don’t buy this.
Speaking to Emirates 24|7, resident PK said: “It started yesterday, and the water stopped working at 10:30 a.m.. When I went downstairs and asked about it, I was told that a water pipe had burst near the elevator and that it should be restored by 6 p.m.
“At 6pm, when nothing happened, we asked the maintenance team again. They said it was indeed midnight.
“No water again this morning. Signage around the building has been changed at 6pm today.”
For PK, who hasn’t taken a shower since yesterday, the situation had lost its humor for the past few hours.
Sharma, who was visiting one of the residents of Warsan Tower, admitted that he had not visited the facility in the past 24 hours.
“I stopped drinking water to control my urges,” he said. “In the evening we drove to use the facilities at Mall of the Emirates. We were desperate.
“I heard that several other people went into the Media Rotana Hotel next door and used the facilities there.”
When he went to question the workers, he was officially informed that the initial problem had been fixed with new pipe. So a third, more permanent solution is currently being considered. ”
Some homes have piles of dirty dishes, while others line up with buckets in front of water trucks set up near the lobby.
“I feel like I’ve been transported back to an Indian village,” said Akanksha, a resident of another building. “I would never have imagined myself standing in a building in Dubai with a bucket, trying to get water from a communal tap.”
Emirates 24|7 made several calls to Al Shaq Facilities Management for updates, but no one answered the phone.
Updated signs say water service will resume by 6 p.m.
