NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — When it comes to picking a license plate, the design options are nearly endless, and now pet lovers will have some new designs to choose from.
The Nashville Humane Society will be able to get their own special license plate, but first they need 1,000 people to sign up and request the plate, with proceeds from the sale going to pet families in Davidson County who are going through a tough time.
“We still have a long way to go. We’re almost halfway there, but it’s not enough,” said Taylor Spreitler, the organization’s community engagement coordinator. “We still need a little more help. We’re just very hopeful.”
Money raised from the $35 special license plates will go directly to the Darcy Lashinsky Memorial Pet Food Bank on Osceola Avenue, which is helping Davidson County families currently facing tough economic times.
“Last year alone, we distributed 16 tons of pet food to the community,” Spreitler said. “People can come in and pick up supplemental pet food for their pets. Times are tough right now. Prices are going up.”
The pet food bank is open on Wednesdays from noon to 2 p.m., and pet owners with up to five pets can come every other week, up to twice a month.

Once the number of applications for license plates reaches 1,000, it will take about six months for them to be sent out. No firm deadline has been set yet, but applications should be made quickly.
“Just go to our website or check out our social media @nashvillehumane on Instagram, click the link in our profile and you’ll be taken there. Donate $35 and fill out the rest of your information. It’s that easy,” Sprattler said. “It only takes about 30 seconds.”
