Summer is upon us and with it comes weddings, a fashion moment for which fine jewelry is essential.
For those searching for jewelry to wear on their special day, we asked Gina Love, co-founder of Auvere, about the latest trends in wedding jewelry for the bridal party as well as guests.
“Unless the bride and groom have given specific instructions to their guests regarding color in their attire, I think guests attending a summer wedding should take advantage of the season and dress as colorfully as possible,” Love says.
“Think of adding jewellery to an outfit like adding a piece of art to a designed room. Like art, I believe jewellery should be bought out of love, not for decorative purposes. In other words, buy jewellery that you really love, not just because it goes with one or two outfits,” she adds.
Fine jewelry doesn’t have to match an outfit perfectly, but rather, Love recommends that it complement a person’s appearance in terms of shape, size and overall look.
One trend she’d like to see at summer weddings is mixing metals. “Mix metals into your wedding look if it’s a consistent part of your personal aesthetic or if you want something unexpected and fresh in your look,” Love says. “If not, wear metals and gemstones that match your skin tone to add that extra energy to your look.”
Love lists chandelier earrings, like Auver’s conic mobile and wingspan styles, as a wedding trend for 2024. For her own wedding (to Auver co-founder Steven Feldman) in May 2019, Love wore Auver’s 22-karat arthropod earrings during the ceremony.
Love says Auver specializes in high-karat gold and sterling silver jewelry — 18K, 22K and 24K — and calls herself a maximalist, as she almost always chooses big, bold jewelry when attending weddings.
“But I’m a minimalist, so when I wear big, bold clothes, I tend to limit the number of pieces I include in a look,” she says.
“When styling jewelry, think about how you want each piece to stand out. I imagine first, second, and third place, like a podium,” Love says. “The first piece is the focal point of my style. The second place is less obvious; it complements the first piece but acts as a focal point if you need to take one other piece out. The third place piece shows attention to detail and that the overall style has been well thought out and thoughtful.”
Love says weddings are a great opportunity for men to show off their style.
“When it comes to wedding bands, we’re seeing more men taking their jewelry further with bolder, wider bands, diamond bands, and bands with colored gemstones,” she says. “It’s also great to see men starting to combine chunky bracelets with watches.”
