Houston – There wasn’t much good to take from Sunday’s Detroit Tigers-Astros game, but Bally Sports at least brought some joy to Michigan fans by poking fun at the former Ohio State quarterback.
Houston Texans star quarterback CJ Stroud attended the game at Minute Maid Park, but the Tigers came close to defeating Ronell Blanco’s no-hitter, losing 4-1.
Stroud is coming off a stellar rookie season in which he passed for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns and just five interceptions, was selected to the Pro Bowl and earned Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.
But in Michigan, they don’t care about those statistics. And Bally Sports Detroit knows that very well. When they aired Stroud’s game in the bottom of the fifth inning, they showed a graphic that read, “2023 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year – Career: 0-2 at Ohio State vs. Michigan.”
Stroud had video game-caliber stats during his time at Ohio State, but he was also the Buckeyes quarterback who lost to Michigan for the first time since 2011. The following year, Ohio State lost to Michigan at home for the first time since 2000.
Was Stroud’s fault Ohio State lost those games? Absolutely not. He played great against a great Michigan State defense. And let’s not forget he was sick, it was snowing, and the sun was in his eyes.
But 0-2 is 0-2, and Michigan fans have been hurt by the Buckeyes for so long that it’s hard not to celebrate this streak.
