Although we specialize in Formula 1 news coverage, we occasionally cover important events in other fields. One such event is the 101st 24 Hours of Le Mans. We bring our readers the latest updates on this race, which is expected to be an epic showdown between various superpowers of motorsports and the automotive industry as they compete for the highest honors in this prestigious endurance race. In the world of IndyCar, the Indianapolis 500 holds equal importance to the World Endurance Championship (WEC) as Le Mans.
Le Mans is widely known as the pinnacle of sports car endurance racing, especially in the modern era, and attracts many of the major manufacturers. This year, 14 manufacturers are competing in the race, with six of them being the favorites to win. Additionally, the event features a number of talented drivers, including former F1 drivers, such as Antonio Giovinazzi, who won last year with Ferrari. This weekend at Le Mans, we’ll be following Giovinazzi and other former F1 drivers closely as they compete for the top prize.
This year’s FIA WEC season enters its fourth round with the 92nd edition of this iconic endurance race. Last year’s race marked its 100th anniversary, first held in 1923, and the 2024 edition is expected to be just as spectacular, with an estimated 300,000 fans in attendance. Le Mans is a very important race on the WEC calendar, not only because of the great challenge it poses to the teams, but also because it is a double points round. The winning teams in the Hypercar and LMGT3 categories have the chance to earn a total of 50 points, making Le Mans a key event in the fight for the World Championship title.
A total of 62 cars and 186 drivers will take part in this year’s race, including 37 full-time entries from the FIA WEC. Participants will compete on a 13.6 kilometre circuit. The hypercars will travel at speeds of around 340 kilometres per hour. Around 70% of the laps will be run at full throttle, and it is estimated that hypercar drivers will shift gears 78 times per lap. For a comprehensive report of the race click here>>>
Our plan is to provide daily summaries in the lead up to the weekend, as well as continuous coverage throughout the 24 Hours of Race. Rest assured, we’ll also be keeping an eye on the ongoing story in the world of F1, which never stops.
